Recent Landing Experience

My Situation:
H1 receipt, AP (with EAD and I1485 receipt ) in USA and Canadian landing papers.

My Landing Port:
Windsor/Detroit, MI

My Landing Encountering:
(only happened to me, may not apply to other people)
I took Greyhound bus to Detroit and needed to be transferred to Canadian Greyhound Lines there. Detroit Greyhound bus station, located by the MGM Casino in downtown Detroit, is very clean and orderly, at least in the daytime. The bus driver checked every passenger\'s legal paper before letting anyone aboard the bus to Canada. When he saw my landing paper, he refused to accept me and said he would wait me for a long time at the
Windsor port for the landing process. I immediately went out and asked which TAXI driver could take me to Windsor Canadian immigration Port. One TAXI driver was willing to do so. He asked for $50. I guessed that I could haggle the price. I did not have the courage to do it then. The Canadian side of immigration office was not busy. It did take me about 20 minute to go through both the immigration and custom inspection. Then I walked to Windsor, a very small city in any perspective. Later, I thought that I could have asked the Canadian Greyhound driver drop me off the immigration station and do not have to wait for me.

Returning to USA:
My friend drove me through the Ambassador Bridge to Detroit. After stopping at the U.S. immigration inspection booth, we sat in car and met the immigration official sitting in the booth, like a highway toll booth. I handed in my passport and Advance Parole paper, with the page of passport turned to where my original visa and I-94(my original and latest one)stapled. This immigration official carefully examined all my papers and asked me questions such as "where are you going?", "what are you doing in the U.S.". The whole process took about 3 minutes.

Finally:
Good luck to all who want to land in Canada and come back safely.

Hello ! Thanks for the details...could you please....

let us know the following:

1) Did the US immi see the Canadian LP and comment on it ?
2) Did the Canadians ask you about the US status etc ?
3) This is a good post, I had read quite a few posts about
potential harasement and denial of landing from detroit !

Good luck in the green card process :)

answers to "tt tt"\'s questions

1) Did the US immi see the Canadian LP and comment on it ?
Answer: I opened the passport to the pages which contain my visa and I-94 with my AP in between for that immigration official, he did not check other pages. I guess that he got all information he needed so that he did not have to bother other pages.

2) Did the Canadians ask you about the US status etc ?
Answer: This Canadian immigration official did not ask me any question. She asked me to place all materials into the little drawer beneath the window. These materials include bank statement, landing paper, and passport. Again, it was just my experiene.

3) This is a good post, I had read quite a few posts about potential harasement and denial of landing from detroit !
Anser: I really hope that everyone can finish this process smoothly.

thank you....... !!

I had landed when my I-140 was in progress , so there was no
problem for me too, and they did not ask many questions too.

No Title

Hi,

We just landed in Canada by using Detroit-windsor border. Can Immigration Officers put stamp on my I-94 as "expiration" without any date. We don\'t know what does it mean ?

Could you help me in this matter ?
Did they put any stamp on your I-94 ?

Thanks

i-94 treatment at Canadian Border

Putting expiration stamp on your I-94 does make sense. Becoz you are going there as landed immigrant (more than 30 days ofcourse). Sometime

1. They do nothing with I-94
2. Some time they take I-94 (it happened with me at Buffalo Niagara when I was going to Canada for 2nd time after 3 months)
3. And a new case I heard is your, where they stamped on I-94

I would suggest you to show this to US official when reentering US and request for a new I-94 if needed for a $6 fee.

Did they stamp and return the I-94 ?

The usual procedure of the I-94 is that: the canadian officials
take the I-94 and it makes its way back to the INS, and then they know that you have left the country.
seems very strange to me..once the canadians wanted to keep the
I-94 for my friend and he said no , so they said ok and let him
keep it. In my case based on his experiance I had already removed
the I-94 all the times I was entering Canada, so there were no
questions asked.... I am curious ???

tt,others... please help

tt,

Did you ever exceeded 183 days rule ? I am planning to do that and wanted some advice. Do you think this new rule will be applicable to the recent immigrats who have landed in Oct 2001 ???

your answer appreciated
thanks

I think they may apply that rule until Jun 2002.

however as a matter of facti have not exceed the the 182 day
limit. Really they dont care about the exact number of days..
my experiance was that they never even asked the question to me,
in the many times i have entered canada

If they ask about I-94

If canadian immigration ask anybody(while he is going to land for the first time) that "where is your I-94", and if he does not want to show it to them, than what should be his best answer. Can anybody please advice?
