Recent Experience at Port of Entry

Hi Everyone,
I would like to share my recent experience while returning back to the US. I am currently waiting for my I-485 decision. I had left the US for a short visit abroad. On my return, I presented my advance parole document to the Officer at immigration. After researching some information on his computer for a while, he then led me to another room where there were other Immigration officers. I was asked to sit down while they further researched information. Soon, another officer called my name and asked me if I had ever been arrested before? I replied "yes" as I was arrested in 2003 for a DUI but settled for reckless driving. He then said that I should be aware that this incidence might affect my immigration status. He then stamped my I-94 and passport and allowed me to re-enter the US. My questions are as follows:

1. Will I continue to experience this interrogation each time I travel abroad and are there any risks involved with travel? (I am due for another international travel soon)

2. I had traveled abroad a few months ago and returned on an H1-B Visa but was not subjected to this interrogation. Did the advance parole document usage lead to this?

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi
sad to hear that.
May be they completed name check meanwhile and came to know abt this or may be the use of AP led them to ur A# file and brought out the facts whereas with H1 they don't know ur A#.

This is just my guess.

BTW what was the port of entry?

Was ur experience better with AP?

Yes... I heard about this happening after the patriot act. The gov now has the right to even revoke green cards by upgrading minor offenses and using them as a reason for deportations. I have a friend who is detention waiting to be deported because of a dispute with his wife many years ago. Last time he came through the airport, the did the same thing to him and took away his passport and GREEN CARD and asked him to show up at local office. He went with a lawyer and with wife and never came out.

The thing I find strange is that he is just fine with his wife now for many many years... I guess when they had the problems before she had called the poilce and he was arrested. So they use that as a way to deport people now.. any similar situations out there?
