All,

I received my US e-Passport in 17 calendar days (8 business days). I had asked for regular processing. The post-office agent who collected the passport application initially suggested 2-3 months for the processing time. Looks like the passport processing bottleneck is over.

Applied for Passport (regular processing): 9th Nov
Received Passport: 26th Nov

Not over, I know people still have problems. You are just lucky. USCIS is almost like a Casino and you gamble your life.

Nimche,

I completely agree with you about the Casino part -- my wife completed her N-400 processing in less than 4 months, it took me 20 months!

Hey, the original poster is talking about passport which is handled by the State Department, not USCIS :) If only USCIS were so efficient in clearing backlogs.

I am sorry, but I see all the same. Federal agency. When you deal with both and you have the same problem because the initial runners are the same, they look the same and perform in a same way. I am happy that you got it fast at least

Passport lot better than naturalization

Nimche, both are quite different. As you see passport is a document applicable for both US born citizens and naturalized citizens. As people running the country, senators, diplomats, business people, American students and families need passport, the government got involved and resolved the issue by hiring extra staff and brought down the backlog. Not to mention other 3rd party private companies expediting the process for a few dollars more.

As you know N400 is not the same. You do not have an expedited fee, but you do face ruthless and discourteous staff harassing you over minute details of your life, dealing with delayed namechecks etc on and on.

I wouldn't be worried much about the passport process than getting qualified for a passport.
