Hi Guys,

I appeared for IELTS on the 9th of April in Chicago and have just received my result.

Overall - 8
Listening - 8
Reading - 7
Writing - 8
Speaking - 9

Although I was not asked to provide the IELTS score but as I have been asked to appear for an interview in NYC I thought that it will be better if I take the test.

Any questions regarding IELTS please feel free to ask me.

Yes, please, in your own opinion - is the test difficult?

Would someone who did not study English have any problems getting passable results?

And, have you used any of the books to prepare for the test, and if you have can you tell us, which one?

many thanks,

:)

I did not find the test difficult. But my education has been in English throughout and I recently completed Masters degree from US. Therefore I did not have any problem in the exam.

Someone who has not studied should definately prepare for a couple of months before appearing for the exam. I have mentioned below a couple of books I consulted for IELTS.

There are 4 practice exams in each book. Take as many exams as you possible can. This will help you get used to the format of the exam. You should develop your own strategy to handle each section.

If you spend some time and practice I think it will be easy to get the minimum score of 7 in each section to get the max points for english proficiency.

I used 2 books to study for IELTS
1) Cambridge IELTS Edition 3
2)IELTS Testbuilder by Sam McCarter and Judith Ash

Hi Kenny

How recently did you complte your Masters ? What field and which University ? Are you currently employed in the field related to your graduation ?
I ask because yours is the first case I have came across since the last 2- 2.5 yrs since I became involved with the Canadian immigration process where someone with a Masters in the US has been called for an interview. Normally the interview is waived for those with US Masters from an accredited University.

Well most of the people are called for an interview to verify their work experience. Looking back I feel that I should have provided more proof of my work experience.

As far as I know an interview waiver is granted based on the evidence an applicant provided to support the claims s/he has made in the immigration forms. If the proof is conclusive and there are no doubts in the immigration officials mind then an interview waiver is granted.
