Hi,

I received my EAD today, so what do I do now. I already have a Social Security card since I am an F1 student when I entered the country, but my social security card has a stamp that say Not Valid for Employment.

So do I go to the SSA to change my card out ? Please advice. Thanks

Ead what do do next...

I was in a simliar situation a few years ago when I was a F1, you are now allowed to work with the ead, the only way the social security card is valid is with a valid ead card. You do not have to get a new card as yet. After you become a GC holder I think then you can apply for a new ss card, with the "not valid for work with ins authorization" being removed. Congrats on your new ead...

H1B married to USC(GC holder until march 06) (5years in October..)

He should still update his status with SSA.

Go to SSA office. Show them your EAD and your restricted SSN and request them to update your status now that you have authorization to work. You will have to fill out some forms and SSA will mail you the new card with the restriction removed.

Hey,
Ari is right,
1. If you have a Social with "Not Valid For Employment" onit you should go and update the SS Office by showing your EAD (you may want to wait a while since they take some time to update their system with information).
2. Then they will issue you a card saying "Valid for work only with DHS Authorization."
3. When you receive your green card again goto the SS Office and update them with your new status, then they will issue you a "normal" Social with only your name and number onit.
Hopefully this helps you!

It's the damnedest thing  I meant to say yes (my advice was pointed out in my earlier post). I don't know how that came out as a 'NO'.

Yes, you should go and update your immigration status with SSA, and get a new card :)

Sorry for the confusion.

First time, when I got my SS card in 2002 via J1 cisa, the card had already showed "Valid for work only with INS Authorization." After I got married, I still haven't gone to SS office to update my SS card. Now I am still waiting for my EAD.

I am wondering, after I receive my EAD, do I still need to go and have my EAD with the same kind of information on it, but only with my new married name changed?

Another wondering is, why not I just wait till I get a green card then go to SS office to change my SS card to a normal SS card? Is that going to cause any problem in the interview? For example, the IO might wonder why my name hasn't changed by then.

In the end, based on the quote, changing new SS card, does that cost anything? Or is it a free service? (which I wonders)

Appreciate your help!
