Congrats ..

Just make sure there are no typos.

I also got mine .. but force of habit makes me peek back and check on old timers here.

What's the next step now ;-)?

Thanks ! I agree. That's a real Thanksgiving gift, isn't it ?
Dl1cd, I think the next step now is just to refine the resume and get ready, finish certificatios, etc. Few more months and I will be firing resumes to selected positions.

Its a jungle out there ..

Little cub got ready to jump the coop and ventured out .. not 20 feet before he met a hyena .. and scurried back to Papa Lion's hut and stuttered "Why didn't you tell me .. it is a jungle out there"

Well, I have been fishing with my resume for last 4 months - all fishes have gone, where - fishing? ;-)

Ah - don't forget to get a new SSN card. I just went today to apply for one.

Not a surprise marlon2006 :), i know people would eventually get the cards after the approval.

wish this be a memorable moment in your life.

regarding jobs, i am not sure whether this holiday season is the right time to search. because when I tried few months back there were good responses.

I am kind of careful as well. I work for the public sector and my job is very low stress and pay is not too bad. I feel I would like to do more, but at the same time I know life may be rough out there.

Are you saying that you have been looking around and the market is not all that hot ? Please let's share experiences then.

Not that I am sending out 10s of probes everyday .. but the bottom line is that unless you have friends there, the HR probably hits the DEL button as soon as the resume makes an appearance in their Inbox. This I have heard from several friends and colleagues - when they jumped ships, this is how they did it too. So, if you want to join Papa Joe's Greased Lightning Inc., you better know sonny Joe or someone close to Papa Joe.

As always, YMMV.

my two cents,
Have a good covering letter specific to each job. Not a common letter for all the jobs; Each time you send the resume, highlight the matching skills in your resume for that job requirements; never followup a job too many times on your own; insiders can get us only interviews not always a job;check if any part of job is outsourced (to know about working at night), if your are a s/w guy check to see how old is the code base etc... america is not bad as india in that we don't always need to know someone inside.
