receipt notice

My husband and I have filed the I-130/I-485/I-765 package at USCIS Nebraska Service Center, April 1st this year. He got a receipt notice dated April 11 (actually, the received date is April 5), from the USCIS California Service Center (!). I understand that the applications are redistributed between centers, so I have no problems with that. My problem is that the receipt notice is for the I-130 alone (addresed to him, as he's the US citizen). No receipt notice for my I-485 and I-765. Is there a way I can find out what has happened with these two applications?

Which State you live in??
My understanding is you are supposed to file i-485/i-130/i-765 package at the Chicago Lockbox facility as per the instructions on the form!!!!!!!

We both live in Iowa. According to the forms filing instructions, we filed our package to Nebraska Service Center. Then, the I-130 application was transfered to California. We know nothing about the other two, the I-485 and the I-765. Was I supposed to file these two with Chicago? If so, what can be done now?

This affects aliens residing in the locations above who are filing Form I-485 under the following categories:

These are the instructions directly from I-485 form. I think if you were only filling I-130 by itself you were supposed to file i-130 at your corresponding service center but if you file the whole package together ( I-485/I-130/I-765...) it needs to be filed at Chicago Lockbox facility.

Anyways trying calling USCIS and find out where your forms currently are???

If you used checks to pay the fee for the AOS and I-765, keep an eye on your bank account... once those checks are cashed you can view the back of the check and get the Receipt Nos for these forms. These receipt nos you can use on the uscis website to track the applications. So sit tight, keep your fingers crossed, and keep a track of your account - if you paid through checks.

I have seen and heard this question being asked by several people who are ready to send the forms - WHERE to mail them all? The confusion is caused by the instruction on the I-130 form that asks the petitioner to mail the form to the Service Center. Something similar happened to a friend of mine who was petitioning for his mom. I told him that he has to send all the forms to the Chicago lockbox, but at the last moment, he read the instructions on the I-130 (that's how he explained his reasoning) and sent them all to the Service Center - just about 2 weeks back. ~Bummer~. Now he has no clue on what happened to AoS package. What's worse, he used Money Orders rather than checks (cuz he thought that would be quicker :rolleyes: ), so he can't even track.

I think people should really do a little more research before sending out the forms and should get an opinion about such questions - from those who've already --been there-- Also, I think it'd help if USCIS were to clarify somewhere that if the applicant is sending all the forms together, the forms need to go to the Chicago Lockbox, but it would take more than a ...rant... to motivate uscis, besides, I can't vouch that putting such a clarification would not confuse those who don't have to file I-485 (ie those following the CP path)

First, I want to thank you all for your replies and suggestions. It is sad I only found this forum now, after filing everything, I mean. There is so much documented information and sharing of personal experiences here, I am absolutely amazed!

Second, I would like to know, if anybody might know of such thing, was anybody in this situation required to do the whole paper work again and resend the documentation to the Chicago lockbox?

Thanks for the idea of tracking down the checks. This is how I discovered they had not been cashed and I got the idea that something must have gone wrong (the check for the I-130 was cashed shortly after they received the application).

:confused: I don't understand why they don't go ahead and send the application to the Chicago Lockbox. Instead, they prefer to send it back to the applicant to let you know you made a mistake and make you resend it again.... no idea....
 
I made the SAME error and did not send it to the Chicago Lockbox.

So, what happens is the application comes back to you in the next few days, and tells you to send it to the Chicago Lockbox. Which means your Received Date will be later.

Because it's not their job, you're the one after the benefit....the least you can do is do your homework and send your package to wherever they're asking you to....

It's a very simple task to look for where to send the package, and yet so many people make that mistake. How hard is it to read the first page in the I-485 package?

You said 'few weeks' it's been 20 days for Anna. She should get the docs back soon or start worrying a little more.
 
I am SO bad at paperwork stuff. Was SO sure i had the address right, until I received my package back.... :eek:

I got mine back in about 15 days.

Thank you for your advice. I am starting to worry already. First thing in the morning, I will start calling USCIS customer service, until I get to talk to somebody and find out where my documents are. I will then get back here with my findings.

You are absolutely right, I've made a stupid mistake. No excuse! But, who knows, somebody might eventually learn something from this. Besides me, I mean.

oh... forget it. :p I feel like deja vu everyday posting the same replies, the same questions keep getting asked and people are not going to learn from other people's mistakes. The newer batch of users have become lazy and dont read older posts or search for answers, rather ask the question first and then search later when told. I wish people search this forum first because it will reduce the number of questions they plan to ask, there are so many very useful threads here that provide most of the answers people seek. {sigh} :rolleyes:
