Hello,
I am a former client of Latour and Lleras, and there is a story in the San Jose Mercury News about Green Card holders being victimized by criminals and a corrupt former INS official. I thought this might be of interest for Jose's weekly column.
Many Korean nationals hired the services of some "immigration consultants" around 10 years ago. Unknown to the clients, the consultants were bribing an INS official for Green Cards.
The INS is now revoking all the Green Cards that were issued by the corrupt official.
The problem is that it is the ones suffering the most are the people who are the the most innocent. Almost all the people who obtained the Green Cards were eligible and unaware what was going on behind the scenes. This is according to the testimony of the Government prosecutors!
Rather than examining the cases individually, the INS is expediting the deportation and refusing to listen to anyone - including the local Congresspeople. The people have been living in the U.S. for over 10 years.
In contrast, the immigration consultants have already served jail terms (they must have been quite short!) and the INS official that was responsible only served time under house arrest and paid fines in exchange for his testimony against the consultants!
