b Updated 04/24/2002 Midnight "Special Breaking News" Report: White House Backs INS Abolishment Bill!!!

The INS\' fate appears hanging at the brink because of the dramatic turn of the White House, according to CNN, to support the H.R. 3231, abolishing the INS. Please read on this dramatic news! Oh My My.........It will make tomorrow\'s House decision on H.R. 3231 a historical event for the American immigration chapters. Reportedly, the Attorney General has also given up its own restructuring plan and is expected to announce the changed policy on tomorrow\'s news conference immediately before the passage of the bill in the House. The bi-party vote count is reportedly assured in favor of this bill, and with the change of policy of the Bush Administration, abolishment of the INS appears a "done deal." The INS problem has angered the Republicans in Congress as it will pose a liability for the upcoming mid-term national election. on the other hand

they are under the gun and may get totally scared to do anything.

People under the gun usually underperform.

INS may stop all processing and start the transition work

The restructuring eventually will help processing but the breakup of INS will cause delay in current processing.

House just passed H.R. 3231

The U.S. House just passed H.R. 3231 proposing to abolish the current INS. The bill will now move to the U.S. Senate. But Sen. Kennedy is anticipated to introduce a bill which proposes to keep the INS with the two separate bureaus within the INS. This Senate proceeding will start on May 2 at the Senate Judiciary.

Looks like effective date for this new law is 1 yr from the date of enactment

wondering what will happen in that 1 yr period.....

* do they continue to process as they usually do
* do they go easy(rather slow) on approvals as it\'s a transition period(and anyways there won\'t INS to blame after a year)
* do they hold on approvals till the transition is complete...

so many questions but only INS & law makers know the answers.....keeping my fingers crossed as always and expecting some miracle to happen in our cases........
