It appears that CIS has expanded the tollfree number to bypass the national customer service center and go to a representative at the service center for particular issues. I have included the link to the pdf document explaining the change/process.
Please note that as asylees, the only option that applies to us is Option 2 - when we are asking about an RFE for a particular application.

I know everyone is anxious about getting their GCs, but please use this new service properly - or they will most likely take it away.
