when a PR lands in canada for the first time, i hear that people get their visa crossed out and stamped as "NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL". also the IM1 visa gets expried in most cases.

so how does a person re-enter into canada after the first time landing, but before dec 30, 2003 using a commercial airlines or a flight from, say outside of the US to canada?

does he/she needs to get a one-time entry visa from a canadian consulate abroad? what is the process involved in getting this visa? is there a chance of one getting denied on the terms that he/she was supposed to wait in canada until they received their PR cards?

i saw the following note on the CIC website (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pr-card/prc-issues.html -- and look for the question -- "Can I leave Canada during the application-processing period?" in the middle of the page).

it states, that IMM 1000 can be used to re-enter canada before dec 30, 2003. but it does not mention anything about boarding a commercial airlines from outside the US to canada or it does not talk about the "NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL" stamping or crossing out of the visa on your passport. so it seems to be confusing to me. can someone please explain me about this? thanks.

Speak with the commerical carrier if they let you fly without the PR Card . IF not , apply for a travel document at the nearest canadian consulate .

You cannot be declined .. . It is yoru country now and you have a right to enter

the website for the canadian consulate in new delhi, does not talk about the travel document. does anyone know a website which gives more details about the travel document or the one time visa for re-entry? if so, please let me know.

Where and when did you get the above information? - My friend went back to canada June without any problem

Does you mean the non-imigration visa crossed out? The passport should have a stamp of the immigration visa which means you are the immigrant. You have either landing paper or maple card and either of them will allow you to enter Canada.

----- i have read this in the postings here in the forum itself. i will be landing myself on sept. 22nd. will give my exp. as well. but even otherwise, my visa on the passport is valid only till oct 3rd, 2003. so i will be landing on sept. 22nd. i will be coming out of canada within a weeks time and will not be getting my PR card before that. in that case, how do i board a commercial airline later say, in nov/dec 2003 without a PR card? will i be allowed to travel to canada? that is my question.

"NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL" is only stamped on the landing paper of new PRs who land after the new immigration policy. Those old PRs' LP did not be stamped, so they could use it to re-enter Canada until 12/30/03. I think that is the CIC website meaning.

I'd like to make sure if the stamped LP can also used for re-entry.

bill1735, do you know when your friend landed for the 1st time?
Could you pls to tell me your friend re-entry details? Is there the stamp "NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL" on his/her LP too? Thanks so much.

What is the Imm 5292? Is it the LP? Why is my LP Imm 1000?

landing

My friend did not get stamp of the "not valid ... But he did not pick the maple card just to apply. He will pick up later.

i would like to know the difference too..... what is IMM 5292 ? what is IMM 1000 ? are they 2 different things? then which one is the landing paper or document? please explain, thanks.
