RE: Passport Stamp

Guys,
We need information on passport stamping. My wife\'s passpost stamp expired on March 5th, 2002. We knew about it and were prepared to go to the INS office sometime in the last couple of weeks. However, our son fell so sick in the past 2 weeks, that we were busy shuttling between home and the Doctor\'s office / Emergency Center.

If we go to get the passport stamped tomorrow, would there be a problem ?

Thanks for any information.

What happens if a Passport Stamp Expires

Guys
What happens if a PAssport Stamp expires ? My wife\'s passport stamp expired on MArch 5th, 2002. We could not go to the INS since our son was extremely sick. We were busy taking to him to the various doctors and the emergency room.

We plan to get the passport re-stamped tomorrow. Would there be any problems ?

Thanks for any repsones.

I hope your son is better

That\'s the most important thing. I don\'t think it is a major problem to have an expired stamp, unless you are going to travel. This is the same with the green card itself. You are supposed to renew the card before it expires, but you won\'t lose your status if you don\'t do it timely. In the same way, I very much doubt there is any penalty or problem to go and get a renewal of a stamp days after it has expired.

Anyway, relax and think twice if it is worth going to INS to get a new stamp, or is better to wait for the card to arrive. I don\'t know how busy is your INS office, but I will try to avoid going to San Jose INS as much as possible.

They stamp it on a different I-94 card with your photo on it.

My wife\'s passport had been renewed in 1998. However, the lady did not see the newer renewal stamping and thought the passport had expired. She did not even ask us about it and just filled the bottom of I-94, affixed her photo and stamped it. She also crossed off the backside which says surrender the I-94 when leaving the country. I double checked with her again if that would be a problem and she reassured me that it is fine and she has her covered both ways (don\'t know what she meant)

How stupid - She even went to India and got H1 stamped in Dec 2001 and had a new I-94. How would the consulate issue a Visa if the passport had expired?
