I am a J-1 research scholar at University X. In continuation to my current research objective, I have received an admission into a PhD graduate degree program at University Y. My current DS-2019 (research scholar at University X) is valid until October 2007 while US consulate has issued me a visa until 2011. The University Y intends to issue me a DS-2019, with the STUDENT category.
Could you please guide me with the considerations and options that I can follow to legally start the program at University Y?
I would be highly thankful if anyone could guide me with the legal procedures to start the PhD program (August 2007) with the same valid J1 US visa (until Nov 2011) issued by the US embassy.
