RE: I-485 process steps

Hello there

I want get myself clear on the process on I-485 (I know I could get it off the internet but you are expert on this matter too!). My labor and I-140 got approved on August'06. It is EB3 category and I want to know the steps how I-485 and EAD application process goes. My attorney is saying we cannot process for 485 till the priority date is current; in my case it is 2005 (attorney said USCIS is processing Oct'01 now). How fast is the process going? If any one could tell me how long it might take to get the process started (idea with your experience). Also can we apply for EAD before 485 (priority date) so my wife could start working?

Would really appreciate your suggestions/thoughts

your attorney is correct.

How fast is the process going? If any one could tell me how long it might take to get the process started (idea with your experience).

It will take a few years. When you are current or close to current you can do medical exam and the file I-485.

Also can we apply for EAD before 485 (priority date) so my wife could start working?

Sorry, no, EAD requires I-485 filing.
