Re-fingerprinting. Why?

I had my fingerprints taken on October 1, then a couple of weeks later, I receive a notice telling me that I need to have it retaken again on the 25th. Has anybody else experienced this?

And now I see this other post from you :)

Yes, that's exactly what happend to my wife once. She's got faint FPs, sometimes they are unreadable. No big deal. Eventually they get them right ...

If fingerprints come out faint on the digital scanner, is there any way that they can just do the normal fingerprinting with ink? I live 3 hours away from the fingerprinting center and it's such a hassle to go back again and again just to have my fingerprint taken. Is it possible to request ink fingerprinting?

From your posts, seems your wife did her re-fingerprint about a week after her first one which was faint. Did she receive any re-fingerprint notice for re-fingerprint? How did she manage to do re-fingerprint so fast? I am facing the same problem now and I do not know how long I have to wait to do the second one. Thanks a lot.

Not quite. In her case, FP1 was invalid. We noticed at that time, that her online message was different than mine when they got updated after FP-ing. In her case it didn't say "processing has resumend in your case ... , etc". as usual. It said something inconclusive (can't remember exactly)

After I140 approval, they called us for second FP. And at that point, her letter indicated that her FP1's were not readable. So, when we went for FP2 we talked to the technician and he tried hard to get clear FPs for her. Apparently it worked fine (according to FBI)

So, sorry but I don't know what the timeframe is . My only ball park figure would be a month. When we went for FP2, my lawyer advised us to call USCIS 1800 number if we didn't have news of my wife's FPs in a month ...

Best!
