Re-Entry Permit

In December'02 I applied for Re-entry permit and in Jan'03 I left for the India with intention of staying there for 2 years.
But so far my premit request is not approved and on BCIS website they are giving expected time of 425 to 450 days.
Does this mean whole purpose of getting permit is of waste and I have to visit US before end of the year ?
Is anyone else is in same situation ? Please share your experience . Any suggestions are welcome.

Because it is clear that you will not receive reentry permit before 1 year form filing, it would be wise to return to the US to avoid losing GC.

BTW, I filed 13 months ago and still waiting.

I agree with you that it looks like there is no other option but to come back to US before end of the year.

Most of the people who opted to return to home country permanantely or temporarily for personal reason such as old parents etc. now my other question is 'Being PR , can we apply immigration for our parents ? and if yes then any idea , how long it takes ?'

I-131

To ttil,
I have the same question with you because I apply I-131 for my husband .

I just call my lawyer, he said "it is unnecessery to come back in one year, you can wait till you receive your I -131. "

Now, the waiting time is 424-454 days. So, we should be receive I-131 in two years, that will be fine for us come back after 1 year because I-131 valid for 2 years.

It is wise to ask different lawyer, hope anyone can kindly input other answer. Thanks!!

P.S. Can you believe ? My lawyer said one couple apply I-131 on June 03, the wife got I-131 already, but husband haven't received yet.

Hope we are the luck one !

Thanks JoeF,

yeah, you are totally right.....

so, I just called again, he said the" reject chance " is really really low, especially for the first apply and my husband is the first time.

But, he changed his tone said...." if you want to have 100% safety, you should come back in 1 year..." but he still say the reject chance is really low....

Thanks so much for your suggestion.....I don't want to take the chance now......
Better be safe!!

Now, I am curious ..have anyone has reject experience ? Please input, thanks!

My question is if a person having applied for a reentry permit comes back to the US after 11 months for a visit and then goes back overseas for the purpose the re-entry permit was sought, is the reentry permit considered abandoned and does a new petition need to be filed?

How Long I will have to stay

As My Re-entry permit is still not approved after almost 11 months I am planning short trip to US. I am currently in India and working on some assignment so it will be hard get long vcacation for personal reason.
