Re entry permit

HI I got my GC 1 yr back.
I'm planning to take a break and live in India for 2 yrs.
I'm taking reentry permit for that.
my question is do I need to maitain a residence in USA, which is not possible any way in my case.
Pl advice.

Why is that?
I have always heard you preaching that as a PR you are required to maintain residence in the US.
So, how can one do that without having an apartment here?

Can't the INS question - where do you live, what is your address - and you better have one in the US...

Please clarify
