Re-entry permit validity clarification

Hello,

I am new to this group for asking the question so any help is highly appreciated.

My brother is a green-card holder and he applied for the re-entry permit before leaving the country in June, 2007. The application was processed and approved in October 2007. The approved permit stats the expiry date of 2 years i.e. October 2009. My question.... as per the law which should be the correct date? June 2009 or October 2009? Should he be back within 2 yrs limit after leaving the country or as per the book? Do you think his green-card is in jeopardy if he enters after June but before Oct'09? In the past, INS used to send just a letter stating 2 yrs limit after the departing date. Any recent changes? Thanks.

as long as , the trip is less than a year, no need of a reentry permit.
if is more than a year, then he has to come back before the expiration of the reentry permit. hope this helps.
