Re-entry Permit - Timing Issue

Hi,
I have an Advance Parole valid till May-2011.

I was thinking of leaving in Sep-2010 for more than 6 months. Then came the green card 'approval' this week not the card itself.

I am thinking what the heck, if I have the approval why not keep it for some time if possible. Most likely, I will be leaving before physical card comes in the mail. My question is, can I have the paperwork ready with my friend and when card comes in the mail, my friend can take a copy and send the re-entry permit app to USCIS.

Is there a problem with that? I read somewhere that you need to apply for re-ntry permit 'before you leave' and I-131 needs a 'copy of green card' (True/False?)

How do I work this out?

See the I-131 instructions.

You need to be in the US when the I-131 is filed, including when USCIS receives it (they consider the filing date to be the day they receive it). You can leave the US after that, but you must return to show up for the biometrics.

If you don't have the physical green card, you can send a copy of the approval notice instead.
