Re-entry permit taking 1+ years to process

I really need help to see if there is anything I can do about my problem. I'm currently under an Asylum status with my green card application pending since august 2000.
On March 15, 2004 I applied for a renewal of my Re-entry permit (refugee travel document), which in the past has taken me 1-2 months to get. This time however, I've recieved the receipt notice stating that it will take 545-600 days to process this type of application. I'm in need of an emergency trip at the beginning of June, and I don't know what to do!

Is there a way of expediting/speeding up the process of the re-entry permit?? Why is it taking so long this time? Please help.

Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

I understand your frustrations. In the old days where people used to talk to immigration officers directly, you were able to do this over the phone. I did it before. I called the NSC and talked to an officer, explained the situation and I recieved my RTD within 5 days. Unfortunately you can't do that becauuse if you call the National center, you will talk to some one who doesn't have a clue and is unwilling to help. I also have a couple of friends who had family emergency and what they did is they appeared in person at the Nebraska Service Center and talked to officers. They got their RTD within 3 days. If you want to take the risk to fly from Florida to Nebraska and try your luck might be worth it.

yes there is a way. Just send them a letter asking them to expedite your application. Make sure you write you reasons clearly and enclose possible documentations. I know that this worked for my friend. Good luck
P.S. send it to the same address to which you sent your RTD application
