Re-entry permit expiring...need some info

My US re-entry permit is expiring soon and i would like to find out how i can extend my stay over here without losing my greencard. (My intent is to return to the States (lived there for 11 years) but would like to remain overseas for one more year (due to personal reasons).

If i fly back to the US before the permit expires, can i fly overseas again after a week or 2? If yes, do i have a full-year again in order to return to the States without ahving to obtain another re-entry permit (which i think won't be given to me AGAIN after already having had one. I don't think there is a chance that they will issue another one right after the other expired, correct?--at least not if i don't show good enough evidence, right?

Also, would i be able to keep my greencard if i have a job as an Army Civilian and the job is located on-base (american property?)

Any help appreciated!
