Re-entry Permit Expiration Date Q

My mother got her biometrics taken and left a few weeks later, on 8/11/2013. Yesterday, we received her re-entry permit and it expires on 9/23/2015. Since she left on 8/11, should she return by 8/11/2015 or can she return by the actual expiration date, even though this would mean that she spent more than 2 years outside the US?

She can stay outside the US until the reentry permit expiration date, even though that would be more than 2 years outside the US.
