Re-Entry Permit and US Citizenship Relation

All,

I request you to clarify me the following

1. I have received my GC 3 1/2 years before(July 2001). Now If I need to leave to India in May 2005 for a period of two years. I was told, I need to apply for Re-entry Permit. Thats good. Now if I stay in India for 2 years, will I loose my ability to apply for citizenshiip as I will not be completing 5 years of continuous stay in US?

For example , if I leave US in May 2005 and return back in April 2007, when can I apply for citizen ship.

(a) Is it after 2012 (5 Years from 2007 - After re-entry) or
(b) Is it after 2007 (After 5 Years from 2001, where the abroad period will not be counted)
(c) or can I apply in 2008 itself (I might have completed 5 years stay in US including 3 1/2 years before departure and 1 1/2 year after arrival)

In summary, How will re-entry permit affect the application to citizenship?

2. If I need to keep my Green card continued, should I bring my family and children back to US every 6 months? or only my validity is enough (as their green card is dependant on my GC). I was told every one should return back.

How risky will it be if only one person comes back?

3. If I need to stay in India for period of more than 1 year, will it be possible without re-entry permit (even if is job related transfer to an indian office etc)

Once again thank you all for your great support on this excellent forum that clarifies many items for people like us.

Please bear with us if this question is answered before.

Regards
