Re-applying for GC when you just gave it up

I might have to give up my current GC and go back to my country (Japan) and re-apply for another one. I’m aware that, if I re-apply for GC, it’d take about 1 year on average to get it. But would it make any difference that I’ve had my GC until very recently? Would someone like that be able to get the card more quickly given that the US government already has the updated and proven info about them?

Thank you so much!

Processing times depend on a variety of factors and will look random from the applicant's point of view. The I-130 and immigrant visa processing might take more or less processing time the second time compared with the first time (probably more though, because of COVID).

I don't think having had a green card before will make immigrant visa processing faster the second time. They will still have to do security checks because there always could be something on your record now that wasn't there before. They will also have to review your immigration history in case they find something that makes you inadmissible, and I wouldn't be surprised if this includes re-reviewing the period of time before you became an LPR (in case they made a mistake the first time).
