Hi guys,
Finally, my wife's and my cases have been approved.
RD 8/3/01
ND 9/24/01
FP 12/8/01
AP 9/3/02
EAC 01 278 5XXXX
EB1, NY
Received the approved notice on 9/9/02.
Went to 26 Federal Plaza, NYC for passport stamping.
Took Subway 4, 5, or 6 and got off at Brooklyn/City Hall station.
(Note: take the express one, if possible)
Got there around 10:00 AM. Went to the Worth St entrance.
Show the guard the approval letter and were let in.
(Note: Use the worth st entrance because there were few
people. There were a long line at the Broadway entrance)
Went to room 1-102 as is shown on the notice. The guard
redirect us to 3-300. Went up there. There were about 50
people there already. Gave the approval notice to an officer.
Wait till the names were called. Then went to the counter again.
The officer asked for passport, I-94, EADs. Signed on a form
twice. Have right index finger printed twice. Were asked to
sit and wait till the names are called. Wait for about half an hour.
Heard our names were called. Received the stamped passports.
We were told that we can use the stamped passports for
traveling and seeking employment. The regular card will be
received in 6 to 9 months. It was 11:45AM when we received
our passports.
Went to the 31st floor for the social security card. My wife left
earlier because she had to get back to work. She gave me her
passport. Filled out a social security form. Wait for about an hour
for my turn. An officer collected everyone's docs. My passport and
the form I filled were taken by the officer. He used the A# written
by an immigration officer on my passport to pull out some info
about me through their computer network. Then I realized that
the immigration officer has swamped my wife's A# and my A#,
because her name were shown on the paper when the Social
Security officer try to pull out my info use the A# written on
my passport. The SS officers were very nice, they used my real
A# again to pull out my info. I was out of the SS office at 1:30PM.
Went down to the 3rd floor to correct the A# issue. There were
very few people at this time. Finally, get the A# corrected. It was
2:15PM.
Lessons learned:
1. No need to get there earlier. I think 1 to 2PM is better because
there are less people.
2. Check the passport when you receive it. Particularly the A#.
3. Never try to get stamped on Friday, the 13th. ;-)
Good luck to you all. Your turn is next.
