My spouse and self have been approved. My kid is not yet approved.

RD: 3/22/2002
ND: 4/9/2002
FP: 3/26/2003
AP: 9/17/2003
Labor: Substituted
Self/Spouse: EAC-02-156-51XXX
Kid: EAC-02-156-52XXX (Still says received I-485)

I have not been visiting this forum or checking my case status recently. I found that the case has been approved yesterday when I received the approval notice.

Interestingly, my family has decided to return to India permanently sometime between Feb-Apr 2004 so that my kid can start school. Initially, we planned to return in 2005 but since things have worked pretty well so far in US, we are leaving early so that it does not affect my kid's schooling. I think since GC is of no value to me, I get approved faster of all people. I was one of those who was willing to abandon my GC.

Some info for the other GC filers. This is my second GC filing. I did not file my 485 with my previous company after I140 approval as I quit them. The next company I joined filed using substitute labor. FP was never scheduled due to some INS goof-up and lawyer had to call INS to have them manually scheduled. My advance parole (which I wanted for travel) was screwed up big time by the INS. Never out of status and have been working for Fortune 50 or Big 5 in US. My pay has been considerably higher than my Labor.

The only benefit is I can get re-entry permit and save some money on taxes after my return to India.

For the rest of the folks waiting, your time will come. GOOD LUCK!

Congrats... It will be nice to have a little extra card in your pocket. I assume your wife and kids would have used AP while going to India.

frantic,
All of us will return early 2004 as I have set the ball rolling (house, moving part of the finances from US to India, etc.). Would not have matterred with GC or AP.

Last year, when I wanted my AP for overseas travel, INS goofed up big time. VSC sent "unapproved" AP to Harrisburg, PA where they make the AP docs on approval. Harrisburg just put in on hold. After, lawyer calling VSC repeatedly, VSC checked it and found their mistake and requested for the AP. Harrisburg sent it to NSC. Then NSC sent it to VSC and finally AP approved.

Seems like if someone wants a specific thing from VSC, they delay it somehow. Or, may be it is just life where the most coveted is the most difficult to get. ;)

Congrats!

Your kid is a pre-schooler, and is not approved along with you. I wonder what BCIS adjudicators are drinking. According to BCIS SOP they should keep your kid's application together with yours and process them the same time.

I know kids' application will be separated from their parents' if they turn to 15 during 485 process hence need to do FP. There are quite a few kids who were 13 or 14 at the time their 485 applications were lodged but turn to 15 by the time BCIS picked their cases.

sai-2367,
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC)
Andersen Consulting
KPMG
Ernst & Young
Deloitte & Touche

PwC has sold its management consulting arm to IBM and hence the Big 5 consulting is now down to Big 4.

E&Y has sold parts of its consulting to Cap Gemini.
Andersen Consulting and Arthur Andersen (Enron fame) were earlier part of Andersen worldwide.

The Big 5 used to do auditing, legal, HR and management consulting (tech and strategy). But most of them have spun of their tech groups after the Enron fallout.

Yjay,
My lawyer called me and she was kind of upset with INS regarding my kid's case. She was thinking maybe my kid will get the welcome letter straight away. If not, she will be writing to INS next week.

rajum,
Thanks.

US and other parts of my global work experience was just a goal for me, financially, career-wise and also as a personal experience. Now that my kid needs to start school, I do not want to delay my return to India any longer. I also feel extremely lucky that I am returning to India during an hiring boom.

Wish you will get your GC sooner and your dreams accomplished.

sai-2367,
IBM always had the highest revenues among computer companies ($80+billions in recent yrs) and HP (with compaq now) second. But, they are not purely into consulting.

The Big 5 or 4 (which was 6 when Pricewaterhouse and Coopers & Lybrand were seperate) is something like Ivy Legaue. An university can be on par or better with Ivy League but will never be labelled "Ivy League."

Good or bad, the Big 5 charges very high rates because they can bring a lot to the table and especially, strategy consulting used to have outrageous costs. On the strategy front, they compete with McKinsey, Booz Allen, Kearney, etc. On the tech front, they compete with IBM, EDS, CSC, etc. But, they used to have both and the auditing part used to get lot of tech/strategy assignments because of their influence. Hence, the govt's grouse and all these spinning of tech/start consulting arms.

Congratulations

My friend CONGRATS,

I am not into the personal consulting business, but I would reconsider abandoning the GC. It all depends on the individual, how many years worked in the US, the future and goal. There is also something called CITIZENSHIP and dual one..I think Indians are covered by that now..(if you are from India..I am not).
In any case, good luck and as far as a lot of the rest of us, we are not going anywhere. We are staying here as this is bacame our country for the better or the worse.

I am dying for my approval but nothing is happening. Only thing is happening is waiting since 97.

Congrats Buddy! Have fun and Best of Luck and if Possible plz pass ur luck to me also.

Congrats

Congrats. U r right in that u r getting back to India during the hiring boom, but ur type of consulting has not yet started big time in India yet, I mean, the big 5.
