The problem is my mom got married to my father after her interview for her green card in the Caribbean. She got married to him before she entered the United states and before she got the physical green card. The lawyer told her that she will not be able to get her citizenship and might be deported because of this. We been living in the U.S for 7 years now and she has been with my father for over 23 years. My mother did file for my father before she knew of this. Today was his interview and the interview lady ask him why was he not married to her from a long time ago.He will be getting the green card after he turn in a few papers. My mother did went for her citizenship interview and was denied because she told me the lady that interviewed her thought that she lied about being married on her interview for the green card, when she clearly did not because she got married in the period after the interview before she set foot into the U.S.

Is there a written law for this?
What can we do?

We have been worrying for over a year. :(

Thanks in advance for the responses.

Did she obtain her green card through the Diversity Lottery? If yes, I believe she was supposed to update the consulate about the marriage, if she got married before she entered the US with the immigrant visa. This is even if the marriage occurred after the interview.

Also, if the green card was filed in an unmarried family category (e.g. unmarried over-21 sons and daughters of US citizens), she was supposed to update the consulate if she got married before landing in the US as a permanent resident.

So if either of those happened, the denial is legitimate, and she probably will also deported and your father's green card rejected.

Where is your father living now? Still in the Caribbean, or in the US? If in the US, legally or illegally?
