Hello Guys:
Details are RD 7/2001
ND 8/2001
LIN 01-251-xxxxx

Comapany lawyer got the EAD and AP papers made ready last week since the current EAD expires in early Oct. 2002. The original EAD was approved from NSC. Company lawyer wants to file the renewal of EAD in the local INS Detroit due to the fact that it is faster than NSC just for AP and EAD.
I have been an observer to this site and from what I read people go to local office for an iterim EAD usually when their application in the Service center reaches more than 90 days.
Here is my concern......Do any of you guys have heard it is a normal practice to apply to INS Local office directly for EAD and AP renewals? Any disadvantages??
5th year NSC, Nachos, Jaxen, Jim...........any thoughts are really appreciated!!

Here is some info

I am not an immigration expert but Form I-765 instructions says as follows:

'If your response to question 16 is (c)(9), file your application
at the same local INS office or Service Center where you
submitted your adjustment application.'

If you want more information click on the following link and see under 'Part 5 Where to file' on page 6 and 7

EAD renewal ....

I have applied for EAD renewal with my local district office (Cincinnati) a week ago upon my lawyers advice. My understanding is that as a general rule you should apply with the service center where your 485 is pending. But some district offices do accept EAD applications(I-765) by mail.

I was told that district office is faster but you have to go in person to get your EAD (with appointment)

Depends on the local office

Depends on the local INS office in question.
Some like Cincinnati (until recently at least) it is better to go to the local office. As for Chicago forget it. Takes too long.
NSC has been pretty consistent in approving 765's in 60 days or less since April-May '01 when it was taking over 90 days.
If you want a sure thing, apply for the renewal at NSC at least 3 months before current EAD expires. If it is over 3 months since your receipt, I think you should be able walk-in to the local office and get it. Check before hand however.

Good luck!

Thanks..Rkraman, priyali and Nachos

Sincere Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Thanks for the Link RKraman. I had the same thinking....to file the EAD renewals in the same place where I-485 been filed. I do not any leverage since I have access to them thru company HR only. I will keep everyone posted.

Thanks again.....
