Quitting permanent residency + consequences

Hello!

What will happen if I decide to cancel my permanent resident status (return green card)? Reason is that I know I dont wanna live in the US and I cant fulfil the rule being here at least once in a year.

But I wanna have a backdoor, I mean I wanna travel to the US occasionaly on nonimmigrant visas as I did before. May I face any negative consequences while applying for tourist visa for example ?

If you officially and voluntarily surrender the green card (by filing Form I-407 at a consulate), you should be able to obtain a tourist visa. When interviewed for the visa you can point out that you voluntarily left the US and voluntarily gave up your green card, which shows that you are no longer interested in immigrating.

But if your green card is revoked by USCIS because you stayed overseas too long, that's when you're likely to have trouble getting a visa.
