Hello everyone,

I am on an H1B visa and will be losing my job in January. I know that one gets 30 days period to look for a new job. The question I have is, are these 30 days counted from the date of our last paycheck? In other words, does the last paycheck date have any implications on the validity of the H1B visa and the number of days I get to stay in the US?

Thanks!

The quick answer to your question: Once you lose your job, you lose your H1b status and when you continue to stay in the US you will be out of status. There is no such 30 day grace period.
In reality you might be able to stretch it a bit if your payroll come sin a bit later than your lay off date, but from a legal stand point you will be out of status the moment you lose your job.
