Hi
I wrote to TN dept of motor vehicles for my record and they wrote a generic letter like the following.

"Thanks for your recent inquiry. Our record shows that your license was issued xx-xx-xxxx and expires on xx-xx-xxxx. And that the status of your license is 'issued license in another state." If you need to write to us, blah blah...

when I called them I clearly asked to tell me about my accident and the dues if any. They told on the phone that they have no records of accidents (Since I did a defensive driving course, they removed the accident record from their records).

My question: Is the above letter sufficient to enclose with N400?
I called the court where I attended the meeting with the people when I had accident. They have no record and asked me to call Nashville Number and this Nashville authorities sent the above letter. Is this OK?

Second question:- Do I enclose evidence of my other accident where I was NOT at fault but claimed money from the other person for my car damages? (He jammed by car from behind). I took the money but since the accident caused only a small scar on the bumper did not repair it :-)

Third question: Some one vandalized my car when it was in parking lot (broke the rear window into pieces. I had to replace it with my insurance and I filed a police report but no tickets and nothing happened and my insurance paid for this too after the deductible. Do I report this in N400?

Thanks for your help in advance.

1. You need a certificate of disposition from the court - but only if you got cited (a ticket) from traffic police. Court has records if you got ticketed. N-400 only cares if you got cited or charged in any manner.

2. See above. Only if you got a ticket.

3. No.

I did get a ticket in the accident case but the court says they cannot find anything and asked me to call DMV. I did pay the ticket and do the driving course but now they cannot find anything in their records. True too because they told me they will remove the ticket if I do the course. What now? :-(

Interesting - I would think the court would still have records of the case indicating how the case was disposed ( DMV might purge it, as that data is probably used by auto insurance cases). I would say your best bet is the traffic court where the case ended up in not the DMV.

Failing to get any response back, I'd ask them (the court) to give you a letter stating they do not have any info on that ticket and take any other documentation that you might have on you ( for e.g., anything from the defensive driving course, cancelled checks indicating you paid the fine, accident report etc.). Guess the only thing BCIS is looking for is if it was a criminal act ( i.e., possibly DUI)

Do they really care?

Isn't this an overkill? Does BCIS really care about those tickets?
I mean, wouldn't there be an outsanding bench warrant for a long-time unpaid ticket?

Accidents happen and unless you were under the inlfuence of some #$@^ when it happened there shouldn't be any problems especially with the letter that you've got.

Forget about the police report. People fill out thousands of them every day.

Filling out a police report, causing a traffic accident (w/o being charged in conjuction with that accident), or getting a traffic ticket doesn't make you a person of bad moral character.

I have several friends going through (have gone trhough) N400 process. They all used different attorneys who gave them different points of views about these minor citations.
Some said not to even include them!
What I mean is that you will get different answers everywhere you turn into.
IMHO one has to use the common sense and ask a question "will the officer turn down my N400 because of my accident that no one has a record about? (and of course no DUI or anything was associated with the accident, no one was hurt etc." Probably not.... you decide.

Good luck!

I am in agreement with GeorgeF's advise. Some of the suggestions on the documents to take border on extreme paranoism. The N-400 asks for your info for the past 5 years. Focus on 5 years as your Window for information. Do the best you can.

In my interview I was not asked for a single piece of additional information. No 1722, No copies of passport Green card, No traffic violation. Only docs asked were Passport/ Drivers License/Green Card.

Some have gone to suggest that one should carry transcript. I say where does this end? Definitely carry what the Interview doc asks. Pls don't be overly paranoid. Pls understand that if they interview *really* wants to get at you - then he will ask for your 3 rd grade transcript - and if you produce it he will be even more suspicious of yoru motives :)
