Hello everyone, I am new to the game of applying for Canadian PR under the skilled worker class and any help with answering my questions would be appreicated. I have been working for the past 3 years in the US and my US GC process is on hold and there is a lot of uncertinty with it. Thats why I have decided to apply for Canadian PR as a worst case stradegy and I am sure some/most of you all, who are reading this thread, can relate to my experience. My questions:

1) How long of can I stay outside Canada, after I receive my Canadian Resident documents, to get my PR card, which would involve for me to travel to Canada?
2) I do want to hold my Canadian residency status, but I also want to return to the US immediately to resume my work, is this possible? How long can I stay outside the US plus also maintaining my Canadian Residency Status? I am aware that I can stay outside Canada for a maximum of 183 to maintain my residency status, and if I wish to stay longer then I have to file for a Returning Resident Permit. Is this true? Or can I just leave Canada after receiving my card and since the card is valid for 5 years I can return whenever I want to provided the card hasn’t expired? Can I file for Returning Resident Permit from outside Canada too? Can I file for a Returning Resident Permit extension too?
3) If I get married after I get my Canadian Permanent Resident card, and I am residing outside Canada, what is the process to get my spouse a Permanent Resident card and how long will it take?
4) If I were in Canada then how can I file for my spouse’s Canadian Permanent Residency Card?

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you for reading,

Regards

RD

Questions

Ray thank you for the answer and I did find the information from visiting the website you had stated. Anyway I have few general questions and I wasn't able to find the answers to the following:
1) Since I am in the US my Canadian PR processing center will be Buffalo, NY. To the best of my knowledge I have included all the required documents, however what if I missed out a needed documents, are the processing officiers really strict when it comes to documents such that if anything is missing they drop the application or will they notify me about the missing documents and ask me to send them? Also, approx. by how much time is the process delayed when I fail to include a document(s)?

2) I am not able to find my birth certificate. Can I include a copy of my high school certificate which states that my DOB?

3) My highet level of eduction is B.Sc however I have done 2 semesters of MBA (Masters program), will this help to increase my points? Should I include the transcripts of my the MBA program althought I haven't completed the degree?

Any help to my questions will be appreciated.

Thank you

info

Rdhing,

Since I applied for Canadian PR on May 1st (last week), I can answer your first two questions.

I mailed in my app on May 1st, and I received my app back in mail last Saturday(May 8th) asking for more documents (They wanted a copy of my I-797, so I think they dont just reject the app straight away, but if required they will send all ur documents back requesting for more) I mailed it back this morning.

You can get the birth certificate from Indian Consulate. You get it same day. All you need is your passport and a photograph).

Hello,

I'm in the same boat as you are. With my US PR case pending, I'm looking into applying CA PR as a back up. I have several questions related to CA PR process that I'd like to gather some input from you. Please share your experience and I appreciate your help. My questions are listed below:

1. What document is needed to prove your language efficiency besides taking the test? I finished my PhD here in US and has 4 yrs working experience. Would my degree and published papers be sufficient evidence?

2. My son was born in US and has US passport. Do I have to apply CA PR for him as a dependant along with me this time? If not and we decided moving to CA upon the PR approval, what would that take for my son to move to CA later (applying PR)? Does CA support dual citizenship?

3. I have a job here in the US. What steps do I need to take to keep my job here if my CA PR case was approved?

Any other information is welcome. Thanks in advance for your help!

Are you sure you even want to bother applying for Canadian residency?

The Canadian government can raise the points requirement at any time and invalidate your application no what what the requirement was when you submitted.

Really.... what's the point?

1. I think IELTS is required now to prove English proficiency. Take a look at cic.gc.ca
2. It will be good to include him since, if you ever live in CA, he will have medical insurance.
3. Nothing is needed. There is no change to your status in the US. But hold onto US as much as you can.

Canada stinks for educated folks. I have seen PhDs, IT guys, Doctors, Engineers doing labor jobs or sitting at home. On the other hand, my landlord, a punjabi, cannot speak/write a grammatically correct english sentence(however short it is) owns a house worth 600k + . You do the math, isn't that crazy.

I don't think the application fees are refundable. The ROLF is refundable. The application kit on cic.gc.ca does mention which fees are refundable and which are not. To withdraw, you will have to write a letter to Buffalo including your case number. You might want to call them up first to get the withdrawal procedures.

Thank you Tarantula and others for sharing your information!
Can someone please share how long would that take to get PR approval? It seems like people applied Jan,2003 are still waiting.
Thanks again!

Dear RAY S.,
I wanted to know if you can help me out.I have exactly 14 months to have my H1 Expire and meanwhile my company has already started my GC process and it is still awaiting labor certification(for the last 2 years).Yesterday I got the confirmation from the Canadian VISA Office that they wanted to have me mail them original pasport and photographs for stamping the VISA of canada. Once the passports come stamped from the consulate I wanted to know how much time will the Imiigration Authorities give me on order to to stay in the US. Do I have to go to Canada in Between for the PR Card and If I have to then can I come back to US.As of Now I do not have any relatives or friends in Canada whose Address I can give so I was worried. Also is there any extra steps that I have to take in order to retain my work permit and job in US as I do not want to lose it.

Canadian PR questions.....

Hello, I have few questions about the Canadian PR process.

1) I read in this forum that its required to take the english proficiency test even though I did my high school in english medium and my under grad in the US. Is this true? Is it sufficient to mail in my old TOEFL score, my high school and college trascripts for the english prof. requirement?

2) Once on approval of the PR or while the PR application is still procesing, if I were to get married what would my spouse have to do to be included under my name for the Canadian PR? I remember reading on the Canadian website that Canadian authorities are in favor of family ties and usually to get a spouse's PR is a fast process. My dobut is, is it only fast if I have been approved of the PR or is it also if the PR applicatin is still processing?

Anyways help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
