Questions on L1A - Please help

My friend is working for an MNC in India for the past 6 months. His company wants to bring him to US on L1A immediately. I have told him that if he can wait for 6 more months then his GC processing will be easier since he will qualify for EB1. He wanted me to confirm the following:
1. How strict is the requirement "The candidate must have been employed abroad for one year out of the past three years for the qualifying employer" - A requirement for GCs through L1A

2. He will be employed by his US parent company but he thinks that he will be traveling back and forth between India & US. Can his stay in India during those intermittent periods be added towards 1 year stay requirement?
3. What are the other visa categories that his company can explore so that he will remain an employee of the Indian subsidiary but he can travel to US and work for the parent company. After 6 months, he will get an L1A so that his 1 year requirement is also fulfilled.

Any pointers? Can someone share their thoughts on this?
