Questions About Oath Letter

I got my oath letter yesterday (3 months after the interview!), but I have a question about it. There's a list of documents that may be needed at the ceremony, and a check mark has been placed against "Reentry permit, or refugee travel document". I never had any of these - never needed either. Should I be worried? I tried calling the INS customer care number yesterday and they said it was just a generic letter, but I don't think it is. A checkmark has been placed next to this item, when it could have been left blank - doesn't look generic to me.

Also I got the oath letter in the mail but no notification email even though I signed up for that at the USCIS website. There hasn't been any visible update when I login either. Is that normal?

As far as reentry permits etc., if you never had to use them, then I would not worry about it.

I have never received any email notifications even though I signed up on the USCIS website to check status of my application. And the status on the USCIS website did not change either when I received my oath letter.

thanks. anyone else here had the reentry permit box checked when it wasn't applicable? did they give you trouble with it at the oath ceremony?

yes, my oath letter had the reentry permit box checked but i never had the reentry permit at all.

it is a standard letter. USCIS would not check if you had the reentry permit or not before they printed the document check list on the oath letter.

Just take all of your green card(s), i.e. current and expired, if any. You will have surrender the grren card. You should also carry another form of ID like drivers license and passport, just in case if it's needed. Don't worry about the other document if you never had them in the past.

Congratulations on your upcoming naturalization ceremony! :)

Don't worry about the checked boxes. They are checked by default, whether or not they pertain to you personally. I also had all the boxes checked, but all I had to turn in was my green card, and no questions were asked. If you were never issued re-entry permits, etc then just disregard the boxes.

question for La Valette

Congratulations on your oath letter!
Could you please post your time line and which district you going through? Thanks

thanks for all the replies. My timeline is below, but don't read too much into it. I think my A-File was lost at some point - accounting for the delay after the interview. I saw many people who attended the interview with me being given oath ceremony appointments that same day, for a couple of weeks after.

Applied: April 8, 2005
Fingerprints: sometime in June 2005
Interview: Sep 6, 2005
Oath Letter: Nov 29, 2005
Oath Ceremony: Feb 9, 2006

(district is boston)
