Questions about I-485

Guys, I am currently filling my I-485 out since 1 year after geeting asylum has already elapsed. I have a couple of questions about this form:

1. Part I. There is question "Last arrival". After getting asylum in 08.2004 I travelled to Ireland in april. Should I give the date of my return from Ireland or the date of my INITIAL antry to the USA in june 2004?

2.Part III. Place of last entry. The same question + nonimmigrant visa number and consulate where visa was issued, date visa was issued etc. If I last enetered as a returning asylee, there is no nonimmigrant visa number and I had no visa, just RTD.

"Have you ever, in or outside the United States been arrested, cited, charged, indicted, fined or imprisoned for breaking or violating any law or ordinance, excluding traffic violations?" - I have been twice ILLEGALLY detained by security forces back in my country. I was not OFFICIALLY arrested. Should I check this box?

And my last question is: "Have you received public assistance in the United State?" After being granted asylee status, I received public benefits form Department of Human Services, Program for Refugees. I guess, I need to check this box. SHould I explain why I got these benefits or just check this box?

Thank you for your replies

Hi Hhemc,
Remember? that Americans are very “by-the-book”, so
I truly believe that you should “give” them what they ask for:
1. Date of last arrival should the date of your arrival from Ireland; place of last entry city/state where airport located at (exmp.: JFK, NYC, NY) and in what status did you last entered (you have mentioned that you left the US after you was granted asylum, but before you have applied for GC, so you might want to put there category A5 and RTD – what means granted asylum and entered using the RefTrevDoc. I’m pretty sure that you will have to explain why did you go overseas before one year of required wait time.
2. For the nonimmigrant visa number put the nonimmigrant visa number and write status also (exmp.: R54739827137/ J-I student exchange). For consulate where visa was issued write your country.
3. About checking the boxes – up to you.
GoodLuck
