Questions about Case Receipts received from USCIS

I submitted my I-130, I-485 (with complete I-693), I-765 and I-131 to the Chicago Lockbox facility. Last Saturday (6/10) I received the notice saying they've received by application and are processing it. However, I noticed 2 problems:

1.) They have my last name misspelled in the I-130 receipt.
2.) The A# they have on the I-485 receipt does not match my A# that I filled out in the I-485 form.

I called them this morning and reported the errors. They said they'd put that information on the case, and that I'd hear back from them in 45 days or less. Here are my questions:

a.) Is there anything else I need to do to ensure that the errors are fixed?
b.) Is this likely to cause a delay in processing?

Also, what are expected processing times for the I-131 and I-765 for the NBC (used to be MSC)? Can I reasonable expect to receive my EAD and my AP by end of September (receipt date 06/06/07).

Thanks for your help.

As far as your name is concerned, if there's an error, it has to be fixed.

However, as far as the A# goes, which one did you use when you were filling out the application? I used the one that I was given with the EAD for my OPT (Optional Practical Training), but then I realized that my notices had a different one. Long story short, it turns out that the one I had with my OPT was just a temporary A#, which now has been replaced by a permanent one. Perhaps, that's what's happened to you?

I too used the one that was on my OPT EAD card. That's the one that has been used by my lawyers for all my other paperwork too. I don't think I had another A# ever. I checked a couple of my H1-B work approval notices (I-129), and they reference the same A# that was on my OPT EAD card. So, it looks like my entire work history in the US (8 years now) references this A#.

I'm unsure as to why they would all of a sudden decide to use a new A#. When I called this morning, they said that they would put down my question on the case, and the case reviewer would have to fix it (if needed), and that I'd get a written notice stating the resolution of the query would be sent to me within 45 days. I guess I'll have to wait for that to find out. :(

In the meantime, if you know anything more about whether this is likely to cause any processing delays, or indicate a problem, or regarding what I can expect in terms of processing times from the NBC, I'd appreciate the information.

Thanks for your help.

Well, that's what I've been told about the A#s and it kinda made sense to me. Apparently, they have a pool of temporary numbers (to be used with non-immigrants) and then they have the numbers to be used for permanent residents. One way or another, I wouldn't worry about the number too much. I too have two different ones and so far (knock! knock!) my case has been moving along well.

As for your name, it does need to be fixed, but, first of all, I wouldn't listen to the (mis)information line. They are notorious for giving out wrong information. Just search this forum and see how many people (including myself) have had pretty bad experiences with the (not-so)hot line. I think I'd rather make an InfoPass appointment if I were you (http://infopass.uscis.gov/) and talk to somebody in person at your local office. Based on what people have been saying here, InfoPasses seem have a bit higher success rate for dealing with problems of all sorts.

As for the time-frame, it's hard to tell how long it will delay your application, but I'd guess it will take them some time to fix the problem. Again, I think I'd just schedule an InfoPass to make sure they're on top of it.

Thanks for the info! I've made myself an InfoPass appt for Friday. I'll update this thread on what I find out. Hopefully the change in A# is intentional and not an accidental error. In either case, thanks for sharing your experience.

No problem. I hope everything works out for you!

Please do share your experiences. I will be really interested to hear what the outcome was.

Good luck!

I kept my Infopass appointment today to ask them about the erorr in my name spelling, and about the possible error with the A# listen on my I-485 receipt.

I was told that the A# that I had previously was a non-immigration A# - ie. applied to those petitions that were non-immigrant (such as F1-OPT and H-1B). The A# on my I-485 is apparently a new A# issued, since this is an immigrant petition. So, I think that's resolved.

Regarding the name error, she took down my correct spelling, the case receipt number, and the A# from my I-485 (it's my I-765 that's got the wrong spelling) and said she'd send an e-mail to the NBC to get it fixed. She seemed to think that this in addition to the phone call I made to the 800 number should resolve the issue. She also told me that this error, should not cause a delay in processing.

Yesterday, I received my appt letter for biometrics for my I-485, however, no appt letter for finger printing for my I-765. I asked her about that, and she said they should have come together, and that it was probably a "glitch" in the system. She told me to tell them on my appt day that they need to do both the biometrics for the I-485 and the finger printing for the I-765, even if I haven't received an appt letter for the finger printing.

So, it looks like things on on track. I'll keep you guys posted. Is there a June filing thread that I can update? (I can't seem to find one).

Thanks,
Preetha
