Hello,

I am planning on sending in my Forms here real soon to become a US Citizen. I keep reading about the Name Check or other FBI Checks and it got me wondering.
Does it matter that I have a Family in the country I come from that has criminal history. I mean nothing major major. Yes some were in Jail for theft or some other things. Nothing terrorist related of course.
I remember when I applied for my Visa back in 2001 I had to get a Background Check from my country which had nothing on it and haven't returned to my country ever since.
I was just wondering if the FBI just checks what I have been doing in the US or all over the world. You know what I mean ?

Also what I like to know is do they let your country know that I am trying to become a citizen and is there a way for them to say no don't let her. I had someone tell me that but it just didn't sound right to me.

Thank you so much in advance for any responses

The FBI background checks are a series of queries of US govt owned databases and hard copy records. I really doubt there is much likelihood of linking back to foreign law enforcement unless your name is already "known" to the FBI for other reasons. I wouldn't worry about it.

Currently the US does not notify your old country when you become a citizen. That may change in the future....
