GC approved on 02/02/2004. I got my Passport stamped today.
Valid for one year until 02/09/2005.

Immigration officer said that it will take 1 year to get the plastic card.

Is that true? How long does it take ?

Until I get my plastic card come, what's my status. I-551, Right ??

Please clarify.

Appreciate your help as always.
 
I have seen recent posts saying that they received the card in less than a month. I think u r good to go with the stamp in the passport..travel..work r whatever u want to do (LEGALLY!!!)

I believe u'd be called a permanent resident

Judging from a few posts here, you should be getting your plastic card within a month, even though the officer gives a timeframe of 12-18 months.
Your status is that of a 'Lawful Permanent Resident of the USA' following your I-485 approval.
The I-551 in your passport is proof of you being a PR (Green Card holder) till you get your plastic card.
