question - what after approval

Hi ... a few questions....

Once you get approved, and you get the approval notice...

1. Will they ask for biometrics always?
2. If they do, then at the time of doing biometrics will they also stamp your passport?
3. If they don't stamp your passport at the time of doing biometrics, then when does that happen ? Do you get GC directly without stamping or do you get another notice for passport stamping?

Thanks for your comments .....

It depends on when you did your biometrics. You may just receive your card automatically in a few weeks.

They no longer stamp the passport unless you need to travel before your card arrives.

If you have to go for biometrics, the card will arrive a few days later.

CFiler,
My online msg is showing just approved and notice mailed .. no other information .. what to do next .. do i have to go for PP or just wait for another email from uscis?. I don't have any travel plans in near future.
Do i have to inform my employer to change the status from H1 to GC?. What are the things i have to do interms of Status?.

Thanks for being one of the most active members in this forum.

You may get a Biometric letter in about 5-6 weeks after your approval. I did.
All my approval letter had said is that they would mail my card in 120 days.
It's at that time that you would go for the pics, signature, index fingerprint digitally.
If you have done this in the past you may get the card directly. They do not stamp your passport now unless you need to travel in the real near future.
I had got my passport stamped before I received the letter. I was caught in between the old and and the new way of doing things. My lawyer advised me to ignore the Biometric letter since they took my fingerprint manually, took the pics I provided and I signed the I-89 card.

You can update your status for your Employer. Fill out a new I-9.

I got approved on a Wednesday and I received the approval in the mail the following Monday. I looked at the postmark on the envelope and saw that it had actually been mailed on Friday, 2 days after the approval.

Like on my reply above, in a few weeks you will either receive your card or a biometrics notice. Don't take any action after receiving the letter unless you need to travel.

Once you get your card, go to the Social Security Office and show it to them so that you can get an unrestricted card. I was able to do that with the stamp and received my unrestricted ssn card a week later.

As for whether you need to inform your employer of your status, it depends, you may want to. I didn't but then everyone in my office knows I got approved. :)
