Question regarding Transit Visa to UK while passport stamped

Guys,
I have been thru the UK website & show as exception that u do not require transit visa if you have green card.
But as you know that we(and number of people like me) are waiting for our green card to get in mail yet.
So in that case do we still required transit visa to UK in British airways even if
Our passports have been stamped.?

Anyhelp is appreciated.
Thanks,

if you don't have the actual card, you do need the transit visa. We went to India through London and Dubai and they did check for UK Transit visa in Dubai on the way back.

UK does not recognize the temporary stamp as a valid US visa. If the temp stamp is all that you have, you will need transit visa for UK.

how about swiss airlines.
Do we need transit visa in that as well.

As far as I know except for Air India, you need a transit visa with just the I-551 stamping on most european airlines.
If any one thinks that I am wrong please enlighten and correct me.

I have checked the website and I stand by what I say. UK authorities are looking for a visa stamp/green card which has the holder's photo on it and has newer security features. Green cards issued before 1998 did not have many of the newer security features.
Temporary stamp does not satisfy any of the requirments mentiones on your link.

Bottom line, if you only have the temp I-551 stamp, you definitely require a transit visa to UK.

The link clearly states that a valid PERMANENT RESIDENCE CARD issued by USA.

a USA I - 551 Permanent Residence Card (Green Card) issued on or after 21 April 1998;

a US Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration - Form 155
an expired I - 551 Permanent Residence Card and a valid letter authorising its extension from a US Embassy/Consulate;

i-551 stamp is not PERMANENT RESIDENCE CARD. It is a temporary one until you get the physical card so that you can go about with your plans in USA till the actual card arrives, like travel etc. But IT LOOKS LIKE other countries do not honor it for transit visa purposes, they seem to EXPECT us to have the PHYSICAL GREEN CARD with us.

What about Canada ? Do you need visa to Canada if you have a valid I-551 stamp in the passport but not actual greencard.

Thanks.

Look at this link
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.html

On this site if you scroll all the way down it is mentioned about those folks who are exempted from having to get a visitor visa to canada.

Canada seems to honor the stamp which is a temporary proof of permanent residence

Good Luck
