Question regarding the tax return

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding the tax return.

I became a permanent resident at the end of September of 2006, I filed the N400 couple months ago and am waiting for the interview.

I did not file the tax return for the year of 2006, because I did not have any US income and I was only physically present in US for a little over three months for the year of 2006, so I was not required to file tax return for year of 2006 per IRS 1040 instructions. I did file returns for the years of 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010.

Now, that does not mean that I failed to file the tax return for the year of 2006, and I should be fine, right?

Thanks!

Since you were not required to file a tax return for 2006, you did not fail to file that tax return. So the correct answer to Q4 in part 10 of N-400 is "No".
