Question regarding landing, SIN, health cards...

Hi people,

I have recd. my passports/COPR a few days back. I plan to
- land in Vancouver sometime in April
- complete PR formalities come back to the US
- finish some cleanup here
- and move probably by end-August to Toronto.

I read through a few posts and have a couple of questions. Pls bear with me in case the questions are repeated elsewhere...

- As I understand, even though I plan to move to Toronto, I can land in Vancouver. Is this correct? I will be providing an address in Toronto (relative) for the PR card.

- On landing, I will apply for SIN. Again, I am assuming that I can apply for SIN from Vancouver even if I plan to live in Toronto. Is this correct?

- Health cards. Can I apply for the health card (for Ontario province) while in Vancouver and come back to the US? Or do I have to do this when I actually move to Toronto in August? Doing this early has one benefit, it takes care of the 3 month waiting period, so that if I get a card by Apr-May, I already have coverage active by the time I move...

Appreciate any help / time spent on this....

Thx,
Sal

1. Yes, you can "land" at Vancouver, and use a Toronto address for your PR card.

2. Pointless to apply for SIN in Vancouver, as you won't have residential address and HRSDC won't send it to Toronto. Apply in Toronto.

3. You have to be resident in Ontario for 3 months to apply for OHIP, and you have to prove the residency, tenacy agreement, bills etc. Buy visitor health insurance to cover the 3 month waiting period.

SIN & PR

I am also planning in APRIL. I am giving my friend address in toronto but not going Toronto. I will go Windsor and planning to come back in same day. IF HRDC office do not accept address from Toronto friend’s house. Can we apply SIN later or by post ?

Thanks.

YOu have to apply in person, but whats the point of applying for a SIN if you are not remaining in Canada after you "land"? If you are not starting a job immediately, you don't really need it.

Sin

I'm palnning to land in canada(vancouver) and return back to US.

if I apply for SIN,then can I give my friend's address in toronto?

If I aplly for SIN ,should I pay taxes, though I dont live in canada?

Is vancouver/toronto is safe for landing?

Thanks
