Is it possible to re-validate the H4 visa (coverted from H1 to H4) at Dept of state in US or one has to leave the country and stamp at US consulate abroad. Presently PP has H4 visa (expired)stamped. Thanks in advance.

you can revalidate the visa at Dept of state in US if you are not from the listed countries.

Not sure, but they have made it difficult to change status while staying in this country !

Why don't you call BCIS 800 375 5283 !

All the Best !

As long as you are in same category (H1 or H4) as before, you can revalidate them with State Dept. I would go for this option only. Indian consulate might give you hard time. It's safe to get the revalidation done with State Dept ONLY.

As long as you are not planning for any trip to India, sending the passport to state dept is the safest. recently one of my friend and his wife got their passports stamped with the revalidated H1 & H4 visa respectively after about 2 months.

If your visa is expired in the last 180 days, then you can get the revalidation at St. Leuis. If its beyond 180 days, you may have to go out of country and get a new visa in any American consulate.

Can anyone confirm this 180 day period? Has BCIS changed this timeline lately?

Hey Sam I just noticed your dates. I feel you better hold back because you might even get your approval within 2 months. It might be a problem if you don't have passports for stamping.

I guess if you guys are not going out of the country in the next 2 or 3 months then wait for your passports to be stamped with the GC approval
