Question on returning to US after landing

I have just got my permanent resident visa for Canada, and have yet to land. I right now have a valid H1B visa stamped on my passport that is NOT expired. It is valid till Nov 2004, and I have an I94 that is valid for the same time.

Will my H1B still be valid after I land in Canada? Can I re-enter the US, after landing in Canada? Or will I have to get a new H1B, and have to get my visa stamped again?

Also, what is the I-797?
