Question on Parole

  1. During my parent's GC interview, can we get a Parole? Will it be mailed separately
  2. How long is a typical Parole valid? Do they give it for days or months?

Hopefully we will get the interview dates soon. Applied through US Citizen son for Parent's GC in the 3rd week of January 2011.

Fingerprinting done in April 1st week.

RFE for Non-availability of birth certificates. Certificates sent 3rd week of April.

1. Advance Parole is not given in the interview. It is applied for and delivered separately from the interview. Approval is almost automatic; but whether it's actually usable is another matter. If your parent was illegally present in the US for more than 180 days, Advance Parole will not be good enough to return to the US.

2. It takes about 2-3 months to be approved, and then it's valid for one year.
