Question on naturalization certificate for passport application

Good evening.

My understanding is that naturalized US citizens need to produce the citizenship certificate when applying for a US passport.

My question is this: does the post office want to see/validate the certificate or do they take it and submit it to the passport office?

If they take it (and obviously I will make several copies before I "loose" it), do you get it back or does the passport replace it and the certificate is then gone for good ???????

Many thanks to all for a great forum ... wonderful moderation.

yes u need to mail the original...dont worry its not a issue they wont loose it...
becarefull with the number of copies u make..
according to the law u can just make one black & white copy..
its like for some stupid reaon u stumble across a official tomorrow who sees the no. of copies u have a write u a ticket :D

B&W copies only? Hmmm... I just scanned and printed my wife's (and, since the scanner and the printer are color printers...)

Where's the B&W restriction, do you have a link?

Do you get the original back ?

Many thanks ..... do you get the original back with the passport ??????

Yes, you get the original back with your shiny US passport.

The copies restriction has been abandoned. We were told about that in the nat ceremony. Logically, if I have a copier at home and run a hundred copies , how would anyone ever know. Now if you start using for farudulent purposes..thats on you...

The Passport Services sends back the original..don't worry about. Mine took a week. New passport/ original cert back in safe deposit box. Good luck

I once read that the law was interpreted as you can make copies as long as you do not do it with the intention of doing anything illegal such as making fraudulent certificates.

kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Exactly, thats probably how every dope dealer thinks,i can hide the stuff at home who is going to know about it?
:)
The copies restriction, well the judge told us in the ceremony and he was very specific about it and repeated it that only one b&W photocopy is permited..
a couple of years the law was that you cannot make a single copy of the certificate...even now if u take a look at the certificate they print it in bold red font saying do not make copies as it is punishable by law....

when i got naturalized, i received an envelope that says , " a message from the president of the United States Of American" on it. and the court lady handed us a yellow sheet with some information on it and FAQ for new citizens, one reads, "can i make copies of my certificate of Naturalization" and answer is , "yes, only black and white copies".
Therefore, although it says on the certificate that copies are not allowed, though, finish the statement, without authority, i guess you can make black and white copies, and the authority is you, the owner of the certificate.

I am %100 sure of the accuracy of this piece of information.

I had to submit the original with the passport application, and i got it back with the passport. It's not a bad idea to make a couple of copies before mailing it out, just in case.

I hope that helped.

Nicely interpret, like i said uscis permits for only 1 b&w copy...have no clue about assumptions on authority...its not like everyone in the world will try to get a photocopy of a individuals certificate..it has to be the individual who tries to get a photocopy of the ccertificate...
There are plenty of countries which permit american citizen's to travel without passport and there are occasions where you need to provide a copy of your naturalization certificate...This is where the AUTHORITY permits you to make copies...

When you make a copy, hand write ---copy--- on the top. That way in the future you can prove that your intent was just to copy...not fraud.
