Question on address change

Background - changed address (within the same city). Same employer, same lawyer etc.

This question is not related to sending AR-11.

For the I485 application, is it necessary to change address by calling the 800 number if the mailing address for the I485 is the lawyers?

I am a little confused because when I called, the cretin at BCIS said that changing the address would cause all correspondence to be routed to new address. I don't want this to happen because I think there is some risk involved (who knows - there are 1 billion ways in which this can be screwed up by BCIS).

Now what happens if fp2 notice is sent? Which address will it go to - Lawyer? Old Address? New Address? (Miracles happen, they update based on AR-11)

In addition they ask for a 9 digit A number. the only 9 digit A number I have is on the 140 approval. Is the I485 A number (8 digits for me) and the 140 A number supposed to be the same?

In my case, every time when INS sent receipts to me, it sent two copies. One to my lawyer's office, the other to my home address directly. So, in this case I had to update my home address by calling them.

You can call them up again, and explain this to them. Make sure they will send two copies, one to your lawyer and the other to you.

Call 1800 number and update them.Make sure to ask them for an acknowledgement . They will send one, it takes 2-3 weeks though.
