Question on 485 and H1

More submission for I-485??

Hi Jack,

After H1-renew, did you submit more documents to INS for your I-485 case? As you know, the approval of H1 has a new I-94.

I get confused when thinking about this together with change of employers - may have different attorney. Someone has done both (change of job using portability regulation & H1 renew) please help!!

ps: my current attorney suggests doing H1-renewal which I understand why (in case I-485 goes wrong), but I don't know the details of the process.

Is it still true that I only need to get a receit to continue on working? How long whould it take me to get a receit?

Yes, you can start working as soon as you get a receipt. The time it takes to get the receipt depends on the service center and their efficiency. Generally it takes around 2-3 weeks, sometimes 1 week as well..
