Hi Everyone,

I have a question.

I got my GC in 2002. Since my passport was expiring in less than a year, I got it re-issued from Indian consulate in NYC. On the new passport, they wrote the address in India and address in USA. My question is, if address in USA changes, should we apply for an address change with Indian consulate? And how long it will take? I asked on the phone and they are saying it will take 45 days. Is that correct? Any experiences appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry i dont know answers for ur questions But i have few questions.

Your old passport and mew passport numbers are same ?

what abt the old passport. did they returned that passport.

How long ago you applied for the passport renewal. Looks like if they passport is expiring soon or expired, u have to apply new passport(FINAL) .I think this number is our final passport#

Please reply

Thanks in advance

In NYC consulate, it takes one day to re-issue. If you submit the application before 11AM, you get your new passport on the sameday between 4:30 and 5:15PM. If you submit after 11 AM (they accept applications until 12:15), you get the new one next business day between 4:30 and 5:15 PM.

When you get your new passport make sure that all the information is correct. Note any descrepancies between old and new passports, e.g. name, DOB etc. and bring it to their attention immediately.

You get your old passport back along with new one. But the old one will be cancelled. If there are any valid visas on old passport, they will be still valid. In any case, you have to carry both the passports when you travel.

Also, the new passport number will be different from old one.

I got mine last month. You can apply for new one, before 1 year of the expiry of your current passport, but no later than 6 months after expiry. Your new passport will have 10 year validity from date of issue.

krishnagc,

when u change u'r address in USA, its optional to change it in your Indian passport.
Inside USA, u'r state driver license should always have u'r current valid address as US authorities will rely on that rather than your Indian passport.

In any case, you have to carry both the passports when you travel.
Imagine if you live for 100 years, you will have to carry a bag full of passports with you.
