In a previous post, you said

"If your application for extension is not approved, you have 10 days (from the day you receive the rejection notice) to leave. "

Can you tell me the source of this info?

I was told (by word of mouth) that 72 hours is the max you can stay once your application is rejected.

10 days is just a rule of thumb, and not something that is written somewhere. 10 days is sufficient to pack your stuff, get conformed tickets, etc. Please note that even 1 day of unauthorized stay can be a reason for rejection of a future visa application under B1/B2 category.
